2012 Tournament Flyer

Story:
Twenty five teams took part in the club based event, as local players were joined by some from Singapore, Beijing and Switzerland. After two days of competitions, the Shaheen team (with a few imports) triumphed in the men's cup, defeating last year's winners KCC in the final. The women's cup was won by the Club-Valley combo (Vlub), also against KCC. Overall there was a real festival feel to the event and the combinations of competitive hockey and social atmosphere was felt by everyone over the weekend.
The tournament also enabled the Section to celebrate the Club's 125th Anniversary. After play on the Friday night, an All Star International team (featuring ex internationals from the UK, Holland and New Zealand) took on an HK Barbarians team. The match was fast paced and after an edgy 1st quarter, the All Star team looked like they were pulling away after half time. However, the Barbarians battled back in the last quarter with some spectacular goals and at full time the scores were tied at 7-7. Golden goal extra time followed, with one player from each team being withdrawn after every minute. Both teams went close, but the Barbarians snatched the winner as the teams were just about to go to 2 players each. It was a great showcase for the format of 6's and exciting entertainment for those watching (even non hockey players!). Following the match, the Cowboys and Indians party kicked off to round off the celebrations. It is the Section's 50th anniversary and so we can only go for bigger and better next year. All volunteers to help out on 2012's event welcome!

This year we hope to feature and International FIH sanctioned 6's Championship featuring; Holland, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand, India and Pakistan as well as our club & youth tournament.
