Sorry, stand in skipper has had a pretty poor performance on and off the field this weekend. About the only thing he remembered to do was turn up, have a drink and post the card!
Well Sunday - warm, nice breeze 15 players and Chappie all motivated and re ady. Opposition only scrambling on pitch with mins to go,but looked young and fit (not like policemen at all......) after some initial pressure from The "Fuzz" we slowly made inroads in terms of possession and attacking , however that last pass seemed to allude us and also their keeper stood resolute when we did get in a shot.We worked the ball well from the back to the midfield and down the right - David Watt to Ali and Thorsten to Bertie to Mark and David Lloyd and Tom ever available in the circle . Still no reall action they pressed down our left and were repelled by Andy and Tim,. With 10 mins in the first half I think a little impatience grew n us and we started giving the ball away whilst heading forward and like the Titanic it's difficult to turnaround with that much momentum. So "Sherpa" Touw" had to start playing ( he had been too busy consuming the rather fuller bodied HK air than his more recent diet up till then!) A couple of attacks a couple of short corner and the defense were sweating and under pressure, good saves from "Sherpa" and determined running out from the rest kept us to 0-0 at half time. Even during the Stand in Skippers Tourettes moment to the poor umpire who was being assessed, we remained calm and focused.
Chaps confirmed that we could win this - with a bit more belief and no more "girly" passes, lets try and win some short corners.
We started the second half well pushing them back into their D creating pressure when BAM - turnover ball three quick passes and we were one nil down. Still we pressed forward the midfield working hard and the forwards inter changing and creating leads, but still no score and still no short corners. Joel, Steve, Walter, Mike the Greek all came off the bench and played their hearts out - but we couldn't make that final pass and we couldn't get s shot (except Lloydies lovely touch from a move initiated down the left.) Then blow me down BAM again, the Stand in Skipper kinda left his defensive colleagues in the pooh and again swift movement of foot and ball and again we conceded another goal from less than a foot...2-0. And so it ended with us chasing the game another breakaway and 3-0.
We didn't play that badly - but we need to get the back into the grove that we had in passing the ball to each other - faster and more often
Thanks to all for turning up on time, the Real Skipper for making the admin so easy, Dave Lloyd and Mike V for helping us out so ably.
