vs. Elite A
Results: Win, 2-0
It was the first game after Christmas break and the Cs were excited to play and ready to win!
The Cs started the game with confidence and turned on the pressure immediately with Rachel (center mid) sending the ball right to Maya (right mid) and Maya bringing the ball up to Emma J (right wing). We kept Elite's defense on their toes and worked up the right side with several chances in the D before Elite finally conceded a couple short corners. Although the keeper saved our first straight strike, all our attackers made a beeline for the rebound. After a little commotion in the D, Emma M's stick connected with the ball, sending the ball in with a thud! Our first goal of 2012 less than 10 minutes into the game!
The Cs continued to press on for a second goal, but the adrenaline of the first 10 minutes started to wear off. A weak pass back from our forwards to the defenders was intercepted by Elite, which kicked off their attack. Ellie (sweeper) and Yeng (center back) worked hard to tackle their players and keep them from scoring.
We went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Chappie's halftime talk fired us up to hunt down the elusive buffer goal that we've always wanted. We could win the game 2-0 or 3-0 if we really wanted it!
In the second half, we had more opportunities attacking up the left side. Katy (left back) and Lyric (center back) were doing a fantastic job of taking the ball off Elite's midfielders and passing it up to Kyrah (left mid) and Lydia (center mid). Nia (center forward) muscled her way into the D several times, but was unlucky not to convert. Our next opportunity came along when Ailsa (right back) brought the ball up to our attacking 25 and hit it into the D. Emma M surprised the goalkeeper and deflected the ball in for our second goal!
Two goals up and brimming with confidence, the C's continued to attack, looking for a third goal. Elite also did not give up, threatening our D several times, keeping Annika on her toes. Though we had several more opportunities with the ball being hit across our attacking D and with all three forwards close to scoring goals, the scoreline remained at 2-0 until the end.
It was a wonderful way to start 2012 and a great win going into next week's derby against HKFC Ds!
MVP: the C team. Everyone in the team worked hard and played with passion and energy, so I cannot single anyone out.
(It was a real joy to watch and I'm very proud and happy to see how far we've come this season!!)
