Subject: RESULT. F Team vs Vets B. 0 - 0 Draw.
Hi Guys,
Well a good first outing of 2012 and an enjoyable game. A pretty fair result overall and Vets puto ut a good side to give us a hard game.
First half we started without much structure and a lot of last possession but as the half wore on we got the better of Vets in midfield nad had some good attacks and defended well.
Tony Ng was standing in for the globe-trotting Jeroen, and didn't have a lot to do apart from one scare when a through ball came in, the Vets forward muffed it, it rolled harmlessly towards goal, Tony went down instead of kicking and suddenly panic was in as it was agoalmounth scramble but luckily cleared away in time. Otherwise we have a calm back line..with Julian doing well in teh centre, ably assisted by Fergus, Tim and Walter all tidy up well soem good attacks from Vets and stopping those last key passes or shots in the "D".
Midfield, we had Chris, Bertie, Andy, Joel and Phil. All charging around and tackling well with good runs upfield and passing. Up front the old WMD..hardly getting a look-in with strong man marking and a well heeled Vets defence, and Mark and the returning Oscar on the wings as well as Steve doing a great job in the first half with some telling cross "D" passes that unfortunately didn't find their mark or get picked up.
No score at half time and much of the same in the second half. We changed tactics a bit and sat more upfiled..pushed Vets harded and treid the hard hit upfield, and into the "D"..with the od rare chance coming..the closest to Mark who latched onto a pass and pushed it past the GK but it ran inches wide of the far post. As the game worn on, Vets began to get the upper hand with a lot of attacks and 2 or 3 top saves from Tony kep us in the game thankfully. Some excellent pick-ups from Walter and all the backs in fact kept the danger to a minimum..but it was a close run thing in the last 10 mins. We palyed well and mostly with composure and once we began passing had some good spells. Just need to convert those few half chances we rae egttinbg each game into goals.
So, 0 - 0 it end as we had begun. A fair result and probably a point well won than 2 lost. Good effort by all and no real after Xmas blue or New Year fatigue ( except once yu all woke up this morning ) and bodes well for Sundays early game against a younger , fitter "Skyers" side who we DO need to beat.
Thanks to all. MVP I think is a split.between Tony and Fergus this time around.
