Hi Guys,
Well a short(ish) round-up today for last Sundays top game.
A near full turnout of 15, with "apologies' from Thorsten who was suffering from a cold ( and still not able to shake off the 9 kilos he'd put on vover the festive season along with Chris ! ) so decided it was better to miss out than play, given our new " slim 'n trim " line-ups this half of the season !!
We had the fattest back line in living memory..oh..sorry that "fittest" back line..with an abunance of talent on show, ranging from "slim" David Watt, "Tiny" Tim, "Fullsome" Fergus, "Large" Lyle and " Wirey" Walter and "Jubbly" Julian, backed up by our fast becoming favourite stand in GK, Tony "clean sheet" Ng. All played superbly and we hardly had a heartstopping moment throughout the whole game. Tony only had to make a few regualr stops and commented apres-match he was "bored" ! Tidying up nearly every chance that Skyers actually got in the "D"..clearances and ball distribution out to all sides and areas of the field was near perfect..its amazing what we can do with no happy Chappie instructions and no world clas Ozzie stand in coach on hand..apparently still having some difficulty comtrolling his balls...in Wanchai the night before !
Midfield, again.so much to chose from and everyone was on full song given a cool day, light breeze and little aggression from our opposite numbers, the likes of David G, Ali-G, Joel Chu & Bertie again saw unprecidented "passing" and movement of the ball ( and players too ) some excellent attacking play and generally a whole new level of play that was very satisfying and needed little tweeking in the half time chat.
Up front we had a new speedy Gonzales, aka Mr Jones, and a combination of Mark and Stevie B on the left with the WMD centre once again. Probably halfway through the first half we'd had several good chances, and a few shorts , and then a pick -up from David G saw him score a cracking goal to give us a deserved lead. Not so long after, the WDM had one in the net..but an untimely whistle for 'feet' that were not those of Ali-G..meant it stayed 1 - 0 till half time. In the end.it mattered not luckily.
Pretty much more of the same in the 2nd half saw us double our lead with a nicely taken short corner. Chris out to Lyle and cleanly slotted past a misplaced keeper and no line defenders. Therefter, Skyers did make a go of it..but steady play saw every thing under control and then near the final whistle saw an F Team break away..only one defender and Chris with the ball on half way. Bertie was in full flight..the WMD next to him..Chris to defender..40 metres and closing..time to pass..Bertie and WMD waitied and paused their run tothe top of the "D". Chris to defender..now 30 meters..time to pass. WMD and Bertie positioned well to get open pass to goal..nervous keeper..Bertie fianlly saw his first goal in a decade up in lights. We waited..more calls to pass from teammates and the partisan crowd. Chris to defended 20 metres. Bertie and WMD now tieing up boot laces, adjusting kit, discussing best shot to take etc. Chris to defender 10 metres and closing..Bertie and WMD now in "D"..strategically placed for the simple " slip " ball.and a fine goal. Chris to defender..2 metres..defender to Chris 1 metres.Chris and ball meets defender..Chris goes around defender as expected...WMD and Bertie are really ready....oh......ball stayed with defender and moves upfield. Bertie breaks down, his moment of glory shattered and dreams gone of write-up glory. Time stood still.
So..soon after the game finished 3 - 0...oh no sorry..thats 2 - 0. Great result anyway..sterling stuff by all. MVP to " The Team " I think this week.
So far "unbeaten" for 2012..on a roll and 'movin' up the league charts.
