Ladies D 2-1 KCC B Xmas Trees

Foes:   Dynamo  Ds  (The Club)     vs        Christmas Trees (KCC B)

Strategy: WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2pm (or thereabouts) The Battle commences. The Club make first move to Commander in Chief,  slight breakdown as Commander in Chief attempts to trap ball, but fault quickly corrected (Commander in Chief not quite in tip top shape BUT not due to the effects of alcohol –instead the common cold!) and passed off to the right. The Battle was on!

Possession in the first half of The Battle was largely dominated by The Club (no bias by this reporter) with The Club displaying true skill with fancy footwork and stick skills, spot on passing and good movement off the ball.  Play was pre-dominantly on the left-hand flank with The  Adroit Defender  and The Meteorite (weaving the ball silkily through KCCB) doing a lot of work moving the ball down the pitch towards the target – GOAL!  Actually, bored by inaction on the right, The Indomitable was spotted moving in on the action on the left. Then, as always there was The Force, able to round up and cover her team, making important tackles, intercepting speeding balls and striking the ball powerfully through the enemy field.  And then there was Secret Weapon brought in by our wily Commander in Chief, to create a chink in the armor of the enemy! And pierce enemy territory she did (despite being surrounded on all sides)! Yet to no avail because despite the flurry of activity and abundant chances in the goal area, the target remained ever elusive.  Unfortunately, worse was to come! The enemy had the audacity to score off a short corner. WHAT THE ??? Worse still, it was a dribbler (not the first time this has happened)! The Club were gutted.

Half-time and strategy-pep talk by The General.  Message simple: Dig deep and find true desire to win!

The Battle continues.  Fired to win, The Club are on their forward foot. And then it happens, Secret Weapon strikes and HOW (from the top of D)! BANG!  GOAL! 1:1. But the task is not over. The Club continues to attack, fighting for victory. The Force intercepts the ball around the half-way line, works it adeptly through enemy territory, passes it off to Secret Weapon who fluidly moves it on to The Terrier who sweeps it re-soundly into the right-hand corner of goal. What a goal! 2:1 and The Club rise in unison! Yet, it is never over, is it?! The tension in the air is palatable. We wait in suspense. Secret Weapon’s delay tactics on a short corner backfire and the enemy seize the ball and attack our goal in force.  The Club had to do all in their power to stop them. A few heart stopping moments, and then whew, the whistle goes!
