HKFC B vs HKFC C
Result: 4-1
Finally, the match that had been postponed earlier in the season had been rescheduled for the Thursday evening. Following the match the previous weekend, it was going to be a good test for the Cs to try themselves out against a B team, that was not only sitting pretty atop the league, but also fielded their coach.
Changing to a 4-4-2 formation from the traditional 4-3-3 that has been used so often in the earlier part of the season, Spicey had recognised the need to play with a more compact midfield in order to push the Bs wide and to prevent them from an easy run at goal. The game was played at a fast pace and it was not too long before the B's were on the score sheet courtesy of some clinical finishing. That said, the Cs began to build on a solid platform of play and it was good to see the defence, midfield and attack all linking up to good effect only for Brucey to miss the net with a reverse stick shot. At half time, the scoreboard showed a 2-0 lead for the Bs.
As the second half progressed, the Cs grew in confidence and with the help of some sterling defense by Rousey and Conny the Bs attacks were limited. Again, what was encouraging was that the Cs almost began to dictate the tempo of the game much to the frustration of the opposition. Even the press on their defensive hits more often than not made them use their left as the outlet from defense, which showed the game plan was working. The Cs got more chances in front of goal and Rene's reverse stick hit from wide right of the goal slipped past Tony's reach into the opposite corner.
The match ended 4-1, although the score flattered the Bs, especially their performance in the second half.
Harris Award: Rhodesy - missing some sitters in front of goal
Runners-up Spensley - for an arial that lifted no more than a couple of inches off the ground and did not move through 3 metres
Man of the Match - Conny - for some outstanding defensive efforts as well as distribution going forward - even a 30 metre weave passed the opposition deep into their half.
We wish Charlie a speedy recovery having started the game with great authority and then having to exit the field early on with a nasty face injury that required 14 stitches. Get well soon mate!

PLUS comment from the Men's Section Captain:
"Hi Tom,
Was a good game last night. As your match report says I think the score line is rather flattering to the B’s, it should have been much closer!
Not sure if you got my email on Tuesday about getting some of the senior players (Jaap Buma, Rob Todd, Will Glover etc) to help out with coaching. Anyway, was wondering if you would be interested in one of them running a session or two with your guys. Anything in the last couple of matches that you think you need to improve on? I think the link-up play and distribution between the midfield and defence was excellent (Connor in particular), however, in the final third something was missing (I know you’ve lost your forward players to the B’s…) so maybe one of these guys will be able to help you throw some new moves together for the second half of the season.
Let me know if you think this would be useful for you. Just an idea, entirely up to you
Cheers
Rob"
