HKFC D drew the short straw this week with the late game at home against the Dutch – We begged, borrowed and stole to make up a team this week as the injury list of the D team continues to grow at an alarming rate.
We confidently held our heads high and marched onto the pitch with the average height of the team being around 5’5 and weighing 100lbs – not phased in the slightest by the Amazonian like 6ft, 200lb dutch team, we went to battle. On the back foot for much of the first 20mins saw our incredible goalie Jess Morrison diving all over the goal to keep the fast paced flicks from the dutch out. We finally settled down and started to use the width of the pitch to spread the ball wide from Nicky Lim, yes she actually played a game (well for 25mins at least!) and Becky Mould out to our midfield who successfully moved it up the pitch to our forwards – the first half ended without us managing to get a goal, but an incredible backstick smack whilst facing the wrong way, from our striker Lara Fabiani definitely deserves a mention! The second half we came out all guns blazing and a run upfield saw Claire Fraser pass the ball into the D for a waiting Rachel ‘super sub’ Milenkov to tap into the corner past a stunned goalie, woo hoo! As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day – Mel Watts tackles a dutchie on the outside of our defending D, runs it up to Maya Loasby, who in turn takes it up field, using her infamous left to right moves past 2 of the orange squad to perfectly pass it onto the stick of waiting Lara who smashes it into the lefthand corner of the goal with a little help from Pracheeta on the left wing. Two awesome goals, another great game – would have been even better had we not let three goals in at our end, result 3-2 to dutch! Thanks to Mel, Pracheeta, Rachel and Jess for helping the team.
Kind Regards
Claire Fraser
