Dear Dream Team,
Well what can one say ! On a cool Thursday evening the "F" Team Dirty Dozen assembled and took on the over-confident Erratic "E" Team.
It was a disappointing encounter, lack of team spirit, no game-plan, brief moments of individual skills over-ridden by poor teamwork, lose passes, and general dearth of desire to win the game.
As the evening progressed, ill temper and the realization of being outplayed crept in, then................OH SORRY...........that's the E Team match report...wrong print run. DELETE !!!
*********
The first 5 minutes saw the E's come out strong and confident, but the F's were ready and waiting. Full determination and a far greater desire to take the game same a brilliant game and team effort for all 12 of the F Team players.
Jeroen in goal played a vital role in keeping all but one on a night the E's certainly had many chances but failed to convert. The back four of Tim, David W, Steve and Walter were outstanding, calm and solid. The E's had at least 5 or more short corners none of which came close and every attack was stifled or steered away to safety or the beginning of a new midfield attack to the E's half of the pitch. Even the presence of key-man Proudy did not deter the F Team. Obviously the pressure of the "move", crowd harassment, guilt syndrome, and the "drop" in status has already affected his career immeasurably. We wish him a speedy recovery all the same ! There probably is only ONE cure, but depends if it can be administered sooner or later !
Midfield was key and the Fabulous Four again, of Bertie, Thorsten, Ali-G and new boy on loan Andy were right on form and won near ever 50/50 encounter, passed the ball and thwarted the E teams cohesion and distribution all game.
First half we had more of the play but the E's did manage to score that single goal in open play, but instead of the F Teams heads going down we came back stronger. With moments the WMD was free and a run straight to the D saw shot under the keeper and skim and inch wide of the post. The F's moved up a gear and a superb ball straight into the "D" from Thorsten and run from Tom saw the trademark back stick 'flick' and it was in the goal, faster than you could say " Proudy moved to the E Team " ! So a 1 - 1 score line.
More excellent play from the midfield and a great run from Chris on the right wing saw him to the back line, look up, see ( and HEAR ) Tom, to slide a pass right across the "D". Unfortunately, hit by the shock-wave of Toms audibles, the WMD was unable to stop "launch-mode" and the ball took flight to pass both DT, Tom and the top left corner of the goalpost heaven bound. Still 1 - 1.
Second half, and our Happy Chappie talk told us the bleeding obvious..! That we were NOT the underdogs and had the game for the taking. We had the pressure, the defence, the midfield and the scoring chances. We needed to remain focused and tighten up a little and also bunch together a bit more from defence line to forwards. So we took to the field again. An expected onslaught from the E Team lasted about 3 minutes, held by the stalwarts in defense yet again, and on we drove, ever more in control and attacking at every opportunity. By this time the E's had picked up a couple of injuries, in fact near all had serious damage to the egos and confidence, and even Proudy was left on the bench that seemed a strange decision considering he was drafted for the sole reason of strengthening the E squad. Chris had an outstanding game on the right wing, combining with Bertie to cause havoc and blast passes into the D. Another Chris 'moment' had him pass 2,3,4,5 players, look up, see Tom,,oh no, sorry that was the last time, see the WMD, and pass. For once, the WMD held off, went to launch, reloaded, pulled the ball back and away and then hit "destroy" mode. Through the defence, off the goalie and into the net. 2 - 1 to the F Team.
Some 15 mins to go and it was all set for a desperate showdown. No let up in concentration or effort from the "F's" and the E Team just couldn't get into their stride. A great near 3 minute spell from Chris in the E Teams far corner same him hold the ball and repeatedly take long corners and tease the defence. Some 5 minutes to go and the E Team GK was taken off to put on an 11th man in an effort to sneak and draw. A minute to go and a through ball saw the WMB again free, past one defender, around a second and onto the open goal from the edge of the "D". Under incredible pressure, all 11 "E" Team players going for the tackle, the GK easily with 50m metres, the held breath of the entire "F" Team, the crowd upstanding and ready the cheer...he missed from 3 feet out, attempting a back flick rather then a forward push !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
There it ended. 2 - 1 to the victorious F Team. Superb effort and spirit and a very disappointed E Team. A soon to be repeated performance as our return match is only 2 weeks away on 7th February !.
Thanks to all, and especially Andy who made up the numbers and made a huge difference too. Transfer paper are being typed and submitted as you read this ! Instead of Proudy we'll now call his replacement Pandy !
