HKFC H's 8 - 0 Energy - "Chemistry"
So normal service eventually resumed in our 5th game after the Christmas and
New Year
break. It has taken us some time to acclimatise again and on Sunday we
played with the old telepathy and chemistry that we had before.
I opened the scoring in the first few minutes when the ball broke kindly for
me after a dubious stick tackle inside their D. A feeble reverse stick
strike somehow found its way across the goal-line through the goalie's pads.
A few minutes afterwards, left winger, Paul McGuire edged in David Lloyd's
strike at the far post for goal No.2.
Goal number 3 was a direct result from Chappie's short corner tutorial last
Friday. Guy Higgins and I had spotted that one of the defenders would leave
his position guarding the near post, so Brett Goebel slotting the ball into
the vacated corner of the goal was merely a formality, following Andy
Dale's precise injection and Quentin Burrows' stop.
After half-time, our resident Scouse drummer, "Ringo" McGuire, bagged his
second and our fourth with a trademark sweep-shot off an exquisite reverse
stick vertical pass from Brett.
Our 5th goal was another Brett short corner conversion after Andy and Lloydy
worked the opening for him.
The 6th goal was an own goal that we'll credit to Andy, who would have
bundled
in Tim Loh's effort, which was going wide.
Andy scored a cleaner goal for our 7th when he pounced on a rebound, after
Q's cross-goal shot from a short corner came off the goalie's pads.
Lloydy wrapped up the scoring finishing off my little dink into his path
near the top of the D.
Quotes from Sunday include :-
From an HKFC E team player watching from the dug-out: "This is really good
hockey. Which
team is this again?".
From one of the Energy players as we shook hands: "Are you guys really in
Division 5?".
From Nick Hunsworth (about a certain unnamed player who got sluiced by
their right winger): "He looked like Slotter, but only slower".
We won't be getting too carried away with this performance. There will be
tougher games than this coming up in the next couple of weeks for sure
against Khalsa C, Recreio D and Scorpion B. This Energy side did not really
live up to their name and the only urgency they showed all morning was when
a couple of their players had to go for a leak before the start of each
half.
Cheers,
Louman
