Ladies D 0-0 HKCC A

06 February 2010

With the memory of our previous emotional encounter with the Cricket Club, we knew that we had our work cut out for us. Our opponents were tall, physical and skilful. The D stood for Defence and defend our Pandora we would!

It would be fair to say that the Cricket Club had most of the possession of the game, but on a number of occasions we caught their defence off guard with some breaks from Becky and Ailsa and we were so close to getting the ball in the back of their net…

Had Becky been thinking of Chappie’s “Go for the body or the ball but not both” as she sent the Cricket Club’s right winger flat on her face with a clip from her thigh? Either way, it was impressive work.

We certainly managed to get to practice our defensive short corners - we must have had over 10. Ida may prefer to play on the field but her performance in goal will not be forgotten: with her saving the air shot (that made both teams pause in awe), the diving (either at the player or ball) and being on the ground while still managing to hit the ball away. Borrowed Val also made us thankful that she played for us over the Dinos when she saved us on the line.

When the umpire signalled for one minute being left of the game, it seemed to be the longest minute. The Cricket Club were relentlessly attacking us in our 25 as their frustration grew by the second. As the final whistle blew, we cheered our moral victory of a goalless draw.

Great work ladies!
