Match Report : Ds vs Khalsa B (away) at HKFC on Sun 7 Feb at 12pm
A somewhat damper day than what the captain had predicted, but the damp overcast wet windy and dark cold mid day push bank conditions should have made captain graham feel right at home in the north west england, Hull if you weren't aware.
Ds started off from the push with some steady pace, the headless erratic play of late was present at times but certainly not the trend.
Khalsa the far younger and fitter of the two sides played some quick hockey relying on the pincer attack of their forward lines, however the Club back 4 from the start of play had Khalsa well and truely locked out. Arno was back on form playing a more attacking centre back pushing forward with the ball. Jason forsyth had an outstanding game showing why he has made right back his position. In sundays game he showed full use of the pass along the wing and additional inside passing to the halves allowing some good link up play with craig (one trainer ) wilkinson and Graham (at home in the rain) dove.
Club held possession and controlled the first half. An early spate of possession with the ball being linked across midfield and and finding graham on the top right of the D was hit hard across the goal mouth an an early chance missed by stu webb failing to connect in front of the keeper.
Club continued with some good penetrative hockey but were missing that final 1-2 passes to make good!
8 mins from the end of the first half Graham Dove had a chance at the top of the D, the first limp sticked shot was courteously rebounded back into his lap and his jackal like instincts followed it up with a hard hit goal. 1-0 club.
Keeper Lucho again had a great half denying Khalsa 3 late attempts in the half.
Ds took the field at the start of the second half, waiting for Khalsa push back the heavens opened up, well it was almost as if the skies had unleashed hell. The torrential rains made play almost impossible. 5 minutes into the half stu webb fed the ball out to Eugene who beat his man on the right wing, worked his way inside passed the ball top D to stu webb, man o et man o with the khalsa keeper who slid and spread. Stu webb tried to lift the ball over committed goalie who just spread too well. Denied.
8 mins into first half, lightening and the lakes that had formed at home field were just too much. Match Abandoned.
However a HKFC Ds win 1-0 under rule 11-10.
Generally a solid performance by all concerned, the whole squad showed much improved trap and passing skills, a far less hastily approach to passing and much more confidence in possession of the ball and controlling pace of the game
A solid performance by the defensive unit including Luccho and sukum, on his return. A performance to build on and consolidate the passing and use of the mid field and wings and switching the ball back when the channels are blocked.
Despite some questionable umpiring and at time some aggressive and antagonistic play from Khalsa, Club kept there heads ( Justin no cards today davidson) and refrained from getting dragged down. Well done chaps.
