HKFC G vs Valley F
It was off to a slow start on a cool, rainy, U.K. like morning at the club. After full squad turnouts for several games, the G’s start with only 10. How does that happen? Thankfully, Prakash came racing in just after the start! We thank him in advance for the drinks that the fine will pay for. However, before Prakash broke a sweat, Valley was up 3 penalty corners and Chappie and I were covering our eyes and taking cover in the dugout! Despite some difficulties we did start getting the ball up to the forwards towards the later part of the half and got some penalty shorts of our own. Skillfully, on the 3rd short, Mike buried one to put us up 1 – nil with only 5 minutes left in the half. Happy that our game was on its usual course I relaxed, but luckily nobody on the G’s did. With Jeff & Prakash digging in deep they got it to ! The Greek who with his signature, poke, flip, and jab, moved the ball around and into the 18 and with a long but clear shot put
us convincingly up 2 – nil with only 2 minutes left in the half.
It doesn’t seem to matter particularly who shows up, we still get the job done. Tony running up and down the wing like Linford Christie, Kevin moving back to help out the D, Howard returning from Never Never Land to run his butt off and Prakash, like a seamstress, pulled everybody together to create a defensive shield that was nearly impenetrable by those Valley F Boys! Drastically improving our penalty shorts from 14 to a mere 8, J-D didn’t even have to pull out the MVP face to keep us in the game, even though Valley thought he did. With Skipper Ray, Timo and Hobbo, a.k.a. The Human Wall, the ‘D’ came off battered and bruised but definitely not beaten. A very special thanks to Randall from the H’s who played so well and wa! s so desperately needed. After 5 winless games the G’s gave it all an d celebrated a huge 2-1 victory. Great job EVERYONE!!
