Mens C 3-2 Rhinos

21 February 2010

Rhino 2 - HKFC C - 3

After a disappointing run of form since Xmas, the C team roared back in the year of the Tiger. The first half was a bit of a warm up, as most of us have not played for a few weeks. The silky skilled Mr Lee of Rhino's dominated the first half and with a few uncharacteristic mistakes they slotted their first goal within the first 7 minutes. Their next goal came quickly as a result of another error, and confidence fell to a low. However a great short corner strike from Ralph was key in returning confidence and shape back into the side, and allowed us to go into half time hungry for the second half, despite being 2-1 down.

If our first half performance was a little rusty, we can thank Ravi's half time chat for adding the WD40, and we came out in the 2nd half, with better leads and channels that we were unable to do in the first half. There was a lot more intent in the second half, and we pressed them exceptionally well. Oli did a great job sitting on Mr Lee, and disrupted the maestro from conducting their performance. With their options closed down, we started to take control of the game and the pressure from us started to build up. We were well rewarded over this passage of play with a great reverse stick from Tom R to take us level.

Defence got their rhythm back in the second half as well, and a confident performance from Ralph, Ben, Gil, Conor, Dave and David, allowed us to create a platform to attack higher up the field than we had been doing in the first half. As a result we able to press them in their half of the pitch, and panic set in.

With our tails up, we started to attack in waves. Brucey was unlucky not to hit the net with a trade mark hammer shot, after he was cynically obstructed, but it was Brooky who took us into the lead with a glorious flick into the top of the net, after the searing strike form the newly returned Donny hit the keepers pads - 3-2.

The rest was easy; with control of the game we ran the clock down in the last 10 minutes without being really tested.

Well played everyone!!
