HKFC H's 5 - 0 Shaheen C : Emergency Rooms, Dog-bites and Teletubbies
Welcome to the Min-by-Min match commentary presented by Hkfchockey.com.
Shaheen showcase one new signing - a UK exchange student - whilst the Club
lineup has been disrupted by Cyrus Law being admitted to a hospital ER on
Friday and Robbie Collins' pre-match visit to the Adventist Hospital to deal
with a dog-bite. Rumours are abound that it was, in fact, Cyrus that bit
Robbie.
0 minutes: Shaheen pushback, whilst Chappie and a host of others with young
kids tuck safely away their pre-match Lai See packets. Free beer anyone?
3 minutes: GOAL - 1-0 - Tim Loh (scorer) taps in from close-range a Louman
(assist) reverse stick shot that rebounds off the goalie's pads. Just what
the Club doctor ordered. An early goal to force Shaheen out of their
defensive shell.
10 minutes: Duncan Fitzgerald is forced into making a string of crucial
saves with one Shaheen shot pinging off a post.
15 minutes: David Smyth, ever the warrior, takes control of centre midfield.
There's lots of play developing when he spreads the ball wide right to Q
Burrows, who's providing quality service into D. The H's slow burn pressure
is beginning to make Shaheen crack. First substitution - David Lloyd
(relegated to the bench for the first time in 35 years) comes on.
20 minutes: GOAL - 2-0 - Guy Higgins (scorer) and Lloydy (assist) combine
with a dotted-line free hit set-piece learnt and pre-rehearsed during a
Friday night Chappie tutorial from six weeks ago. Lloydy's arced run into
the D leads to a cutback to Top D from where Guy clunks the backboard.
25 minutes: Guy has a great opportunity to repeat the dose, when Louman
deflects a first time ball invitingly to him at the top of the D which he
smashes just wide. Brett Goebel, rested for G's duty, has been spotted in
the dugout salivating at that scoring opportunity - "that's bounced up just
nicely for my favourite cover drive into the top corner" is what he has to
say.
28 minutes: GOAL - 3-0 - the move of the game sees the H's take a commanding
three goal lead. Guy passes to Lloydy on the left wing, who plays in Andy
Dale on the overlap. The ball inside from Andy to Guy switches the
direction of play right. Louman circles his run back and round to draw the
defence to the far right post, which opens up space for Lloydy in the inside
left channel. Lloydy (assist) thunders Guy's reverse pass into the goalie's
pads and Andy (scorer) is there to slot in the rebound.
Half-time: There's hilarity on the side of the pitch. Chappie's technical
team-talk is interrupted by roars of laughter as Louman gets his arms and
head stuck trying to strip off his tight fitting, Canterbury body vest.
With the poundage around the waist, Louman "looks like a teletubby with his
head stuck inside a chicken".
47 minutes: The Club defence has been at sixes and sevens since half-time.
Shaheen have missed some gilt-edged opportunities. Andy Dale shows the Club
defence who's boss yelling "don't be so #!*?ing lazy", as the ball gets
tippy-tappied and fanni*d about far too much around the Club D. Duncan is
called into action to deal with a series of short corners, one of which he
clears at the second attempt with a sweep of his stick. A tactical switch
sees Nev Watkins and Martin Lane's new hair colouring switch defensive
sides.
50 minutes: Good work from Mark Kan down the right wing brings about a great
cross which Paul McGuire sweeps inches wide. The H's wake up from their
half-time slumber.
53 minutes: The H's win consecutive short corners, which just fail to come
off when Smythy and Paul don't get the desired contacts for the far post
deflects. Nice idea!
57 minutes: GOAL - 4-0 - This time the angle for the shot at the short
corner is created with Lloydy's slip left to Smythy (assist). Again,
Shaheen's goalie pulls off another crackerjack save, but Lloydy (scorer) is
there to dribble in the rebound.
60 minutes: A centre-midfield scuffle sees a Shaheen player try to swap
shirts and bodily fluids with Smythy, who wants none of it. Smythy, making
use of his superior strength (or did he just lose his rag and give the
Shaheen player a "bit of afters"?), shakes him off and the Shaheen player
becomes the second of his team to leave the field injured.
65 minutes: GOAL - 5-0 - Roger Nissim clears a melee at the top of the Club
D to Louman at the halfway line. Holding the ball up and turning in one
movement, Louman (assist) manages to thread the ball between two lunging
Shaheen sticks to an unmarked Lloydy (scorer) who, declining to use Q free
on the right, streaks away into the D and smashes the ball into the corner
of the backboard.
70 minutes: Full time. Another convincing win for the division leaders.
The play and defending was scrappy at times, but, boy, the Club finishing
was clinical - inflicting on Shaheen their first defeat of the season.
Thank you for joining this play-by-play broadcast. See you all next week
for the crunch encounter between 1st and 2nd, when Club H come up against
the Old Bullets side, SSSC C.
