Womens G 4 - 4 Phoenix A

02 February 2010

HKFC G 4:4 Phoenix A at HKFC

Saturday saw the mighty Gs take on Phoenix A whom we beat 1:0 at our last meeting. The team was optimistic of finally getting a win under our belts after a long drought. Going into the game, the focus was attack, attack, ATTACK!!!  Attack, we certainly did with two early chances that saw the ball rolling teasingly inches alongside the un(wo)manned goal mouth. Having converted those chances would've set the tone for the remainder of the game.
But Phoenix A were hungry for a win and charged all the way to the other end to get themselves up 1:0. And that's how it went into half-time.

After a team talk with coach-for-the-day Rob Wilkinson, the team was fired up to take back the game. The team played the second half with all their might with Jane Wakeman opening scoring for the Gs to tie the game at 1 apiece. Terri O'Kelley had all guns ablazing as she quickly fell into place playing up front for the first time and put the G-spots up 2:1. Victory was short lived, however, as Phoenix A converted one of several questionable short corners awarded in succession. It must have been the umpires acute ability to detect (non-existent!) defensive fouls while on his mobile!!!!!

The game opened up quite a bit with the score tied at 2 and the Gs golden stick contender Cristina Wilkinson put the team up 3:2.
Really finding her footing at the front, Terri O'Kelley then tapped in her second of the game to bring the score to 4:2.
With 10 minutes remaining, the Gs breathed a sigh of relief...a little prematurely...as Phoenix A converted twice, once, off a long, then, a short corner to tie the game 4:4.
