Ladies E 4 - 1 Valley C

06 February 2010

HKFC DINOS VS. VALLEY C 4-1

DINOS anticipated an easy win since we beat Valley C in our last meeting by 8-0. Our Captain on the other hand was a little unsure of which Valley team we were playing and made social arrangements with the wrong team!

DINOS had a great start to the game with some superb passes and runs – yes RUNS!

Cath started our attack from the right back and had some lovely one twos with Dani in Right Mid. We had a strong Centre with Mel working the middle section of the pitch in attack and defence.

The forward line was strong with our speedy wings Carol, Di and Sandy. They had great runs into the D. We were looking good!

Our defence led by the ever-reliable Su Cowland looked strong. She had good support on either side with Karen and Liz driving the ball forward.

By the half DINOS was leading 2-0 but the game started to look messy. We reverted to smacking the ball up the field. At half time Coach extraordinaire Chappy, gave us some top tips on how to maintain our shape and finish the game. He wanted more goals to secure the game and for the DINOS to commit to each ball and pass the ball around.

Moving Mel out of the centre half position proved to be a bad move as we lost our shape and Valley were able to capitalize. It was now 2-1.

DINOS had a penalty corner and Vangie gave the girls the plan from Coach Chappy, but Mel had other ideas!! She decided she was going for the straight smack at goal and it paid off score now 3-1.

With only 5 minutes remaining DINOS scored again and the game was 4-1 with only 2 minutes remaining. The forward line wanted more as we defended the hit out of the D. Di May was determined and wanted the ball. Little did she know the ball wanted her more! She went in for the tackle and an unfortunate reflection hit her CRACK on the nose. There was no shrieking or crying as Di went down and blood was spurting from her nose.

The game ended early and we were worried about our DINO friend who had to go to hospital to check on her injury. It looked bad, but we later found out that Di has a nose made of steel – no brakes just bad bruising. What a trooper and we look forward to seeing her on the pitch again soon, hopefully without her panda eyes.
