Sat, 27 Feb 2pm at HV1 HKFC G 2: 0 Shaheen C
Going into Saturday's game with Shaheen C, the team was hoping to better the 3:0 victory over Shaheen C the last time the two teams met. Riding high on the previous Saturday's 4 goals, the fire power was certainly back and, hopefully, here to stay. It was a hot and humid day which had the team sweating buckets before the ball was even pushed back. The Gs started the game off well putting pressure on Shaheen's defence. It wasn't long before Jo Fargus netted her first of the game. Shaheen C countered shortly after but a rather unconventional stick save by step-in GK Parminder Grewal kept the Gs in the lead. Shaheen had a couple of chances that went wide giving the Gs some breathing room going into half-time. After some talk of strategy by coaches Simon Chapman and Rob Wilkinson, the Gs were all fired up to bag in a couple more goals. Most of the game was played in Shaheen's half and midway through the second half, Jo Fargus netted her second goal of the game to put the Gs up 2:0. Woo Hoo! The race for the golden stick is getting rather tight. Shaheen were limited to only 1 decent shot on goal in the second half thanks to Catherine Ludeman-Hall holding up the defence. Sexy lips Christina Lum was superb playing sweeper for the first time. It must've been that extra edge - chipped tooth and all - from the hit she took at training the Thursday past. Summer Fearnley who is quickly mastering the art of whacking the ball cross field did just that on quite a few occasions. Now, we just need someone to connect at the other end to create a nifty turnover. First win of the second half of the season and it was a beauty!!!
