Mens F 0 - 1 Dutch B

14 March 2010

Dear F Team,

Well Sundays late game could not have been more in contrast to the previous Fridays slowest game of the season, and so different in every respect.

Both Club and Dutch had a full squad of 14 and were out to win. Club began in earnest and took the game to the Dutch and we certainly held our own. If was a flowing game and we really passed the ball well, were organised and at full pace.
Dutch too were good at moving the ball around, yet the strong back line of David G, David W, Walter and Tim did as ever a great job in stopping all comers, especially on the numerous short corners awarded in the first half.

Midfield were on song too, with Chris, Bertie, Thorsten, Ali-G, Peter and Ahbinav all doing their part and taking control of the game. Neither side had to many clear chances and the first half drew to a close at  0 - 0.
Our usual Happy Chappie talk saw praise heaped out ( quite unusual ) and the need to hold the ball and for the midfield to bring it on themselves through the centre. Exactly that was done and the F Team played as never before.
We gave Dutch all sorts of problems and had far more of the possession and play. Everyone on the F team was playing superbly and giving all their effort but the goal would not come. A set of tactical changes by Chappie pushing the WMD back into unknown mifdfield territiory to push Chris and Dermot up front, actually worked to some degree ( boy you guys DO run a lot !!! ) and very nearly got us a deserved goal as a pass from the WMD, to Ali-Gi to Chris on to Tom saw him through on goal and flick past and over the GK, only for trhe ball to run agonisingly past the far post by inches.

Time ticked away and The F team had two late short corners but Dutch held out. A last attack from them upfield saw an attack with various infringements and play allowed to go on for some time before the ref blew and gavea  final short corner for the original offence !  Severe protests from the F Team led to a little disorganisation at the back that had been so good all game. The final whistle then blew and the Dutch for once managed to get off a shot. Jeroen was well down but the ball hit his pads and went way up just into the top of the net. A goal and the final whistle in one go. Massive disappointment and a cruel blow to a great effort. Protests were in vain.

A hard way to go down on what would have been a very fair draw, but thats the way it goes sometimes. We had 70% of the game and yet it comes down to the number of goals on the board at the end. Unfortunate on a poor refereeing decision to waste so much great F Team play and effort by everyone. On we go to next weeks Cup game knowing that if we play like that we can really go far in the Competition given just a little luck and a few more scoring opportunities. We have the determination.
