Mens C 0 - 1 SSSC B

14 March 2010

 March 14, 2010 (4.30pm)

HKFC C's vs SSSC B (a.k.a the Bullets)

It appears that history has repeated itself as it was exactly 5 months to this date that the Cs last played and lost to the Bullet Bs by a single goal in the league. In the previous encounter, the Cs went down 3-4 in a close encounter against Bullets that also saw a fine performance by Steve Bruce who roofed a reverse stick goal in the top right corner.

This time around Bullets B won with a 1-0 scoreline, in a play that was simple if not predictable. The Bullets were picking the ball of Cs forward and throwing them back into C's D with long hard balls. On the other end, the Cs defense was picking the balls of the Bullets forwards and stringing a series of delicate passes back to the Bullets defense - and this went on for some time. Bullet Bs goal came in the 25th minute as Bullets capitalised on a moment of disarray in Cs otherwise exemplary defense. The goal was of a free hit awarded just outside the D, to the left of Cs goalkeeper. Their top centre forward rolled a quick free hit to himself, dragged the ball to his favoured reverse stick before smacking it low to the right of Vincent's pads.

The half time prep talk by coach chappie was instructive - despite the goal conceded, the first half was relatively balanced with both sides showing equal lack of creativity and urgency. In true form the Cs took on half the message and started the second half at higher tempo, seeing more of the possesion and playing more of the game in the opponent's half. Alas there was still a dearth of goal scoring chances - here the stats speak for themselves - no shot corners won and only 1 shot at goal in the second half. The only shot at goal came from a display of creative disarray by Cs left half, Charlie P, who dashed around to the right side of the opponent's goal to receive a pass from the right half and to take a shot at goal. By this time my-legs-are-lead Steve Bruce was a spent
force and was not to repeat his previous feat against the Bullets, hardly a champagne ending.
