Womens G 1 - 1 Valley D

13 March 2010

13 Mar 3:30 pm @ HKFC HKFC G 1:1 Valley D

A very hard fought draw to arch rivals (Valley) and a good lead into our final match coming with the F's.

The game started strong and stayed strong through the first half, with a great battle going on at mid pitch for who was wanting to dominate.  We showed great poise in staying spread-out and proving that we have a strong passing network within our team.

With a number of great shots and opportunities from the front line throughout the game, it looked as though we would take down valley quite easily.  We were able to dominate the mid-field play and keep the ball in their end for the majority of the first 35 minutes.

About half way through the first half, off of a rocket shot, nearly knocking the goalie in to the goal, Mary knocked down the first score of the game.  This definitely provided a lift to our step and stride and kept the team firing on the goal into half time.  There was a second shot from Mary that found the net, but it was too high and deemed dangerous.  This shows that the refs have no sense of adventure.  Pesky rules.  Oh well.

After a strong talking to and no doubt great motivational speech from Rob at half-time, the Gs took the field in full force of the second half with a 1-0 lead.  The spirit was definitely there with key take-downs of at least three valley players and a clear physical show of who was more dominant.  Unfortunately with the strong physical play, the officials saw to it to be a bit more flexible on the ball calling and allowed Valley to slip through the seams for more action on the Club net.

Great defense kept them out for the majority of the half, but one well placed shot that not even the As could have stopped evened the match up.  The defense showed great determination though to keep the Valley team at bay for the remainder of the match.  It once again turned to a strong play at mid-field and many more missed opportunities by the MIGHTY Gs, that could not find a place in the net.

The team continues to come on strong and show great strides in playing as a team and keeping the ball moving well on the field.  The entire group played very strong and showed a lot of endurance with only two subs available.  Even with the score being tied, it was clear that the Gs had the more dominant team on the pitch, and not just the physical show but in the technical and tactical side as well.

Great job team and great effort by the coaches.
