HKFC A’s vs KCC A’s
After a slightly disappointing evening on Wednesday and after some inspirational words from Doug on Friday night at training (remember – ‘hang out with some none hockey friends – if you have any’), the A team were faced with a do or die situation on Saturday vs. long term rivals KCC. As of Saturday morning, Club were 1 point ahead going into the game but we all knew that KCC would be up to win this game and the league, as it’s been the closest fought season in a few years.
The trip to
After another motivational talk from Doug, we took to the field for the second half knowing that we needed just 1 goal to win the league. The first 10 minutes continued to be scrappy and then something happened…...we won our first penalty corner. We set up ready, and then………BOOOM!!! Nic dragging out, Pat stopping, and Lara whacking the ball into the bottom left corner – PERFECT (just like Friday night’s practice right!!). From this point on it was Club pretty much the whole time dominating all the plays. About 5 minutes later, KCC attacked, but could not make anything of it and Club were able to counter attack and Lara picked up the ball carrying it to the top of the D, where she spotted Babs running in from the right. Lara slapped the ball to Babs, who flung herself to the floor to score the second and decisive goal. KCC tried to muster another couple of attacks but they were all crushed out by an organized and motivated defense.
A great team effort to win today and to win the league. Just as a note, the A team in previous years have had a minimum of 14 players on the team sheet for every game, this year, mainly due to injuries and pregnancies we find ourselves 5 players down and only able to field 11 or 12 players.
