Womens F 7 - 0 Valley E

24 April 2010

Foxes 7 - Valley E BIG FAT ZERO!

'The Foxes were on Fire!'

On Saturday 24th, and our first round of the knockout comp. The Foxes were determined to start the competition well and had an almighty game against the Valley Es, smashing them 7 nil.

We went out in force, with our usual foxy, feisty spirit. The game started off with a bang, even though it was their push back, within 3 minutes Mairi had positioned herself well, and gave the ball a great little tap into the back of the net on the line after a great injection from Helen, opening the flood gates for another six goals. After a little coaching from Chappie on the sidelines, Mel Harris was able to perfect the trap and hit off a short corner push out. With Alex taking on board the 'top tip', she hammered in two shots from short corners. Gen added to her mighty goals tally, with another two beauties. Rhona played two big positions during this match, and in the mid-heat of the humid Hong Kong sunshine she ran up and down the pitch, playing push-out for the short corners and then running back to play sweeper. The solid defence only allowed one goal opportunity, however, Polly saved the shot with power and finesse. Our defence did a cracking job of stopping any more players getting through, with Ashley and Dionna keeping the pressure on any attackers, and stealing the ball back into our possession and passing swiftly back up the pitch.

We had a penalty awarded to us after the goalie used the wrong side of her stick to try to save the goal. Rhona once again ran the length of the pitch to take the penalty, and pushed it accurately to the side of the goal. Sam unfortunately was not able to add to her golden sticks goal tally, as she was not well, and could only play for a few minutes at a time. We had many more close shaves with shots on goal, with Mairi and Ali passing the ball skilfully into the D. Sarah was in the right position, and would have scored off a deflection, if only the goalie's shoes were not in the way!

In the Mid field, we had some 'text book' play with great switching across the field, with Rachel, Helen, Ellen and Alex showing accurate passing and non-stop communication skills. We highlighted once again that team work and team spirit is key for playing a winning game.

The Foxes look set for a possible cup win...come on Foxy Foxes, we can do it!
