Mens F 3 - 1 HKFC G

Dear F ( for Fantastic ) Team !

On a hot and humid night the full force of the F Team assembled to take on the might of the HKFC "G" Team.

Obviously knowing they had stiff opposition they flung everything they had at us, fielding a squad of 10 !

The evening started a little nervously with just 5 minutes to go and no GK in sight, then a silent as a Ninja, Kubosan appeared from no-where and we were set to play !

Determined not to concede an early goal ( or six ) the F Team basically held the G's in their own half for much of the first 15 minutes. Good attacking play from our strong midfield, Chris, Ali-G, Thorsten and David G brought heavy pressure to bear of a desperate G's defence, with Oscar, Bertie and the WMD all having chances and moves right into the "D". I started to look like a night of chances and no luck again, then we had a good attacked and the ball fell to the WMD for a hard shot, saved well by the GK, only for Oscar to pick up the rebound superbly and put it back over the line for a calming 1 - 0 lead. Soon after, and several more short corner attempts, Chris pushed out, the ball was slipped wide right to Oscar who slipped it back to the WMD again and this time the back of the net was found. 2 - 0 and cruising.

However, the G's we not going to go down without a fight and began to put moves together and get some attacks going. The solid defence again of David W, Tim, Walter and Lyle doing a near perfect job and when there was a chance on goal, Kubosan was on top form, making several key saves. We continued to press, and with additional subs coming on of Peter, Stephen on the wing and Fergus in midfield, as well as Ahbinav standing in for George ( now coach and supporter ! ) we have ample time to hold the ball and move it around the depleted G's. Another chance in the D saw a WMD shot from far out, cruise over the top right hand goal corner by inches, but the half finished as 2 - 0 due to the gallant rearguard of the G's and their excellent Goalkeeping.

Half time talk was given by a Happy Chappie stand-in, who tried hard to wear us out by walking us all over the pitch before giving a talk and demo on how 3 white balls can stop an orange ball for scoring a goal, and off we went again. Our plan was executed near perfectly, with again attacking play, solid midfield work and cool defending, with just one slight 'blip' in that the G's scored an early goal to make it 2 -1 and the nerves and past bad memories began to come back ! Was it going to be a 'upset' night ? On we pushed and the likes of Thorsten, Ali-G, Chris and David G in midfield, creating openings and piling in the passes to the D that were so hard and fast they just kept on whizzing by the likes of Oscar and Bertie and the WMD. Pete too was having his best game of the season and put a few great crosses into the D. A great through ball to the WMD again, who actually stopped it, turned and shot, just hitting the sideboards, was followed up by a scramble in the D, save by the Gk for the ball to come lose, the G's defence was about to clear as the WMD poached and shot and it bounced up and over the stretched out GK to go into the goal for 3 - 1. Breathing space gained and calmed nerves. The G's were still battling, and several chances came their way with once again Kubo flying off his line to take out oncoming forwards or make more saves. The defence held and we rode out the rest of the match. Again, the score could have been far higher given those missed passes and some great opposition Goalkeeping, but we WON and that's all that counts.

Great effort and play by everyone. On we go to Sunday and the SEMI FINALS, that will be a far tougher game against top opposition in a young, fit DBS side. I'm sure we will rise to the challenge and take those chances. The luck and the goals are coming too. Its our Year !
