We start the 2008 season with some great news.
Last Tuesday the GC voted in favour of establishing the new post of Hockey Development and Senior Coaching Officer (HDSC). The Club will appoint Simon Chapman to be the first HDSCO. This is a complete departure from the previous SDO role (sport dev officer). The position is predominantly for our Section’s use. He will have a dotted reporting line into the Chairman of the section’s committe (namely me) and a direct reporting line into Tony Sealy. It is a two year post.
Simon was most recently the Hong Kong Hockey Association’s Head Coach for all the national and developmental teams. Prior to that he was the development coach for the New Zeland’s Men’s U21, NZ Boys U19 & U18 teams and the coach of Canterbury Men & Women’s U21, and Canterbury Boys U18, U15 & U13 teams.
He has been coaching hockey across age groups since 1990 and has a number of relevant qualifications.
His brief is to manage all aspects of hockey development and coaching at this great Club of ours for the Youth, Men’s and Women’s sections.
He is already working closely with Elise, Kim, Chris, myself the Club and as many Captains of teams that would like to talk, which should be all of you!
All members, not just captains, should feel free to contact Simon on any Club hockey matter: he is our coach. In due course we’ll publish a comprehensive schedule of how Simon will work for the section, our aims, goals and measures of success. I hope that we will have as open and as clear a dialogue as possible.
Please note that his formal start date has not been announced yet.
Welcome aboard Simon.
