Dear Hockey Players - i am delighted to announce that at the GC meeting yesterday, Tues 16th, the GC approved SportsLab as a contractor to the Club for hockey coaching services.
This is the first time that the GC has approved the use of an outside contractor for the Hockey Section. I would like to thank Fergus McCoig for his skill in putting our case to the GC and I would like to thank Kim, Chris & Elise for their help providing coaching estimates for the season ahead.
SportsLab will now sign a contract with the Club to provide the hockey section with 400 hours of coaching until May 31st 2009. The contract is renewable annually. The cost of 140,000HKD will be paid directly by the Hockey section out of our own funds. The 400 hours will be split as 200 for the Youth program and 200 in total across the Men's & Women’s sections. We will review this arrangement during the Christmas break.
The day to day usage of SportsLab’s resources will be directed and managed by Simon Chapman in his capacity as the Club’s new Hockey Development & Senior Coaching Officer.
Simon Chapman will work with the three section captains Chris Grossick, Kim Roberts & Elise Heuvalmans to manage their demands for coaching hours.
We now have a three pronged approach to coaching for the 08/09 season that applies across Youth, Women and Men as follows:
i) The appointment of a dedicated Hockey Development & Senior Coaching Officer
ii) The development of volunteer coaches from within our own membership base
iii) The appointment of a coaching services support team to supplement the above where necessary.
Note that we are therefore looking for people to step into the volunteer coaching role as described in (ii); the Club’s Mgt & your section’s committee believe that it is critical to the long term health, success and fun of our hockey section to develop the volunteer coaching base.
Yours sincerely, Charlie Poulton
Section Chairman.
