Mens B 4 - 2 Shaheen

13 October 2011

Once a B teamer, always a B teamer.

It’s 9th Oct 2011, possibly the hottest day in Oct with temperature reaching over 30 degrees, but this day will be remembered for another reason.

HKFC B 4 – 2 Shaheen.

The Bs have already dealt with 2 very tough games to start off the premiership season against the HKFC As and Pak A, and to face the once invincible Shaheen in their 3rd outing could spell disaster if we come up short at King’s Park.  The game had everything, 3 penalty flicks, 1 scored, 1 saved, 1 missed……..

The Bs started well and were in control of most possession in the first 10 mins, eventually this is rewarded in a short corner, which the Bs took its chance well, a half hearted drag flick by Ravi saw their keeper palmed the ball to new recruit Danny at the far post for a tap in, 1-0.   Momentum gradually shifted and the Bs were under pressure and giving away short corners, which is dangerous against a experienced team like Shaheen, a P flick was awarded to Shaheen as a goalie bound deflection hit new centre back Stuart’s foot in one of the short corners.  1 on 1 against Sanachi, Wongy reacted to the flick and saved at lower left. Unfortunately the defense finally cracked and Shaheen took their chances and put away another short corner, 1-1.  With the score line even the game could tip anyway, Doug did well to win the ball off their defender in a hassle play and made a brilliant pass to Tom to finish off all the hard work, the Bs are up 2-1 going into half time.

Shaheen came out pressing in the 2nd half, with Sanachi causing mayhem allover the place, requiring constant double team to keep him at bay, but the Bs are under pressure from short corner again, and a clever pass back to the injector catch the defense off-guard, 2-2.  Time for the Bs to step up again and possession shifted one more time and the Bs were awarded a short corner, Doug pull out a spectacular drag flick and their keeper had no chance to it, the Bs restore their lead, 3-2, only this time we made sure it is there for good.  The Bs kept the pressure on and a chain of quick passing and runs saw Danny beat the keeper and was tripped for another P flick, Danny step up himself and finish  off the job, 4-2.  With less than 10 mins to play the drama continue, this time a P flick was awarded to Shaheen against for another illegal goal – line block.  Shaheen’s confidence was clearly shaken as Sanachi opted out for the flick, Wongy, facing his 4th P flick in 2 games, went the wrong way but the flick itself missed the left hand post by a hairline.

So that was it, the Bs kept possession and for the first time as long as anyone could remember, the HKFC Bs beats Shaheen 4-2
